Since this is the last learning week for 2020, I will be offering an extra credit assignment for Unit 7 on Logarithms. You should review all of the learning lessons for that unit on this page for the previous learning weeks. You have to provide proof you completed the assigned work for the unit. The work was, page 420 2,5,8, page 435 1 to 10, page 441 6,7,8, page 476 3 and 6, Practice exercises 7-3 from May 4 to May 8 learning week, Page 476 6,7,8, Page 455 1 to e only, 4,5,6ab, 8 and Page 473 6,7,8,9.
It took a month of learning plans to assign this material. If you need help, please ask. We can google meet as well. Some of you have not shown me all of the work but have shown me some. You need to have all of the work completed for the unit in order to be able to avail of the credit of the extra credit assignment. This is normal practice we would have done in the regular classroom as you know. Take care and have a good week.

May 19 to May 22, Math 3201
Happy Graduation Week to all Grads of Menihek 2020.
This week we will focus on the laws of logarithms and their applications. As well. we will begin the next unit on Sinusoidal functions. It is intense at the start but it will be okay. Take your time lol.
We will concentrate first on solving exponential equations where you cannot find a common base. You may need to review lessons below from the previous week where you could find a common base. This type of math is used in the financial/banking industry. As well, we will introduce Unit 8...Sinusoidal Functions. Remember, you can email me anytime and I will get back to you as soon as possible. If we need to google meet individually, I will do that as well.

Unit 8 Sinusoidal Functions
This unit deals with the study of sine and cosine functions and its' application in the real world. Periodic and repetitive behavior is everywhere. Have you ever road a Ferris wheel...listen to the engine in your vehicle when you drive...play a guitar chord and let it ring...watch the tide (salt water) go in and out every so often...listen to annoying loaders plowing...the repetitive beat in certain songs...or the sound of a rock stuck in tire...well you are here lol
Please view these lessons:

May 11 to May 15, Math 3201
Welcome back everyone. Do not attempt this week's work unless you have completed last week's as it is always connected to future learning.
So this week we will continue with working with Log Functions and the Laws of Logarithms again but in more detail. You may need to review the videos from last week first before going ahead as all topics are connected. Watch the lessons in order. They are short. However, they DO NOT have to be viewed in one session.
Evaluating Logarithmic Expressions Decibels word problem
Richter scale word problem
Laws of logarithms part 1
Laws of logarithms part 2
Laws of logarithms part 3

Here are your practice exercises for this week.

B) Page 476 6, 7, 8
You will have the opportunity to take an advantage of an assignment for further practice or to try and upgrade your current grade. Professional discretion will be used whether the evaluation will benefit you overall. Otherwise, your current standing will remain the same. You can access the text via two options. You will have to provide proof you are engaging in your weekly learning and the assignment will be mailed to you individually.
Have a good week every one.
May 4 to May 8, Math 3201
Welcome back everyone. Do not attempt this week's work unless you have completed last week's as it is always connected to future learning.
So this week we will continue with working with Log Functions and the Laws of Logarithms. You may need to review the videos from last week first before going ahead as all topics are connected.
Once this is done, watch these videos separately on different days to ensure you have connected the topics to last week.

Video 4 is a little advanced. However, up to 9:32 is your course.
There is no text book work this week. However, you should try these practice exercises. The solutions are included.
Practice 7-3
There will be a short assignment coming on the Exponential/Logarithmic Functions. You will have to provide proof you are completing assigned task etc. lol. I will use my professional judgement when viewing your work and assign a grade only if it is beneficial to your overall grade in the course. Have a good week!

April 20---24,2020. Math 3201
Welcome back everyone. I certainly miss you all and wish I was there in person to continue your future learning connected to your post secondary studies. These are trying times and we will work together to get through this to the best of our capabilities.
The focus and goals for this week will be learning the introduction to the Logarithms Unit 7. This unit is connected to the last unit and both units are important for future math courses at the post secondary level.
What should I do for this week April 20---24, 2020?
Unit 7 Logarithmic functions:
1) Click and watch the following: They don't have to be watched all at once. However, A and B are essential in one session.
A) Video 1
B) Video 2
C) Comparing graphs of logarithmic and exponential functions
D) Characteristics of Logarithmic Functions Converting from exponential to logarithmic
E) Going from logarithmic to exponential form
F) Matching graphs with functions
Read section 7-2 in the text. You will need your graphics calculator for some practicing exercises below.
(If you don't have your graphics calculator; as you know www.desmos.com is available. Don't forget as well, quick graph is an app available for i-phones; and the TI-83 is available through here https://sites.google.com/site/ti83interactivecalculator/calculator).
The LOG button is next to the number 7 usually on any calculator. However, that depends as well on the manufacturer.
Once you have completed this, it is time to practice with some of these concepts.
1) Go to page 420 of the text. The text is online above.
Try Exercise 2 , 5 and 8 using your graphics calculator. You must have Video F watched to complete this or you may wish to leave it until later.
2) Read page 435
3) Try exercises 1 to 10
4) I am available to answer questions by email on Thursday April 23 from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. You can email your question and if I find commonalities etc. I will try to address them via scanning solutions or address you personally.
For those of you that did not hand in the Unit 6 assignment, please be advised it does not go against you as the focus right now is our grade 12s who are NOT doing well at this point of time. Our goal(s) are:
i) to ensure that all our potential graduates graduate in these trying and difficult times.
ii) ensure future learning is ongoing and connected to future studies.
Thanks for your patience! Have a good week.
